Open Mind observes World Mental Health Day 2006 by supporting events in Enfield and Haringey

Enfield recognised World Mental Health Day 2006 with an exhibition and information morning held at the Civic Centre with contributions from Barnet Enfield Haringey Mental Health Trust, Richmond Fellowship, Enfield Mental Health Service Users Group, Enfield Primary Care Trust and Enfield Saheli.
In Haringey, Mayor Cllr Gina Adamou opened a documentary photographic exhibition produced in collaboration with adult mental health service users. The exhibition 'Through the Lens' will be running throughout October and aims to raise awareness of mental health. The event also saw the launch of the Haringey User Network - a new group set up to forge closer links between people who use mental health services and te people who run thoe services. The event was well attended and included local resident and Coronation Street star Jimmi Harkishin (Dev) as well as distinguished guests including Cllr Bob Harris - executive member for social services and Prof Kwame McKenzie - a local psychiatrist who has carried out national research into suidides in black and ethnic minorities.

World Mental Health Day was observed for the first time on 10 October 1992. It was started as an annual activity of the World Federation for Mental Health by the then Deputy Secretary General Richard Hunter. World Mental Health Day is celebrated on 10 October each year.
